For Catholicism, the Annunciation is the revelation from the Angel Gabriel to Mary, the mother of Jesus, that she would conceive a child to be born the Son of God. Her response to the Angel Gabriel:

"Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word." (Luke 1: 26-28)
